Why Do Some Adults Get Acne?
Many people who are not sufferers do not realize that adults can get acne. Many people, both men and women, who are in their 20s, 30’s, and older still, have to deal with acne and breakouts quite regularly. This can be just as embarrassing for adults as it is for teenagers who are thinking about prom. In some cases, it can be even worse because the adults have no idea why they are still getting pimples. This can cause issues with their self-esteem and be troublesome for their social life. So, why is it that so many adults are still getting acne? Here are some of the most common reasons.
Cosmetics Could Be at Fault
Many of the products that are probably sitting on your bathroom shelf right now could be the culprit behind your acne. If you are using makeup that contains an oil base, then it is going to start to clog your pores. One of the things that you can do to help is to start buying products that do not have the oil base. Try to switch brands and see if it helps. In addition, you have to make sure that you wash any makeup off your face completely before you go to bed in the evening. If not, your skin is not going to be able to breathe, and the results will be poor skin!
Stress is a Factor
Perhaps you are feeling a bit more stress in life than usual. Whether you have stress in your work life or at home, your body starts to produce hormones that can stimulate the oil glands in the body. This extra oil can cause a person to have more acne than usual. In this case, you have to find the sources of your stress and discover ways that you might be able to eliminate or decrease that stress. Once you do that, find some other ways that you can help relieve the stress that is building. Exercise and taking a few minutes to relax each day can help.
It’s in the Genes
In some cases, people can inherit traits that could cause acne to be more prevalent. For example, if people in your family have oily skin, there is a chance that you do as well. Oily skin means that you are going to have to fight harder to keep acne problems under control. Parents who had acne problems are likely to pass it on to their children. If those problems persisted throughout their adult life, it may for their offspring as well.
Maybe It’s the Medications
In some cases, medications can be the cause of acne outbreaks in adults. Always know the meds that you are taking and all of the side effects that might occur. If you notice that you have breakouts when you are taking certain meds, you will want to speak with your doctor about the issue. Perhaps an alternative med will not cause you to have the same reaction.
Fixing the Problem
If you do have acne as an adult, it is not the end of the world. You will find a number of different things that you can do that might be able to help with the problem. The first thing that you will want to do is set up an appointment with a dermatologist. You can also try some at home treatments and natural treatments, as well as prescription medications or over the counter medication that your dermatologist suggests. The web is full of information about acne, and it makes a great place to start your research on how best to deal with your adult acne.
