Struggling with the January Detox? Here Are Some Top Tips
Not only is January a time for fresh starts and new beginnings, but for many it is also a period of intense dedication and effort. We all know how hard it is to put down that wine glass or that last bit of turkey and head off to the gym for a more wholesome lifestyle. Furthermore, discipline and self-restraint aren’t always the easiest attributes to come by in the midst of a Christmas carbohydrate coma.
A new year’s fitness plan is usually a struggle to say the least, but that doesn’t mean you can’t channel your focus. Getting fit is all about seeing results and feeling good, and you must remember that fitness comes hand in hand with healthy eating and dedication – it’s not an overnight remedy. With this in mind, here are some health and fitness tips on how to cope with a January detox, staying on track and getting the body you deserve!
Plan Your Diet Ahead
There’s no point in starting a new diet without knowing what you’re going to be eating in the weeks ahead. Dieting is all about planning, and in order to keep up with your fitness regime, you’re going to have to have your meals prepared – whether it’s in your fridge, in your head or on paper. This means making a list of everything you need from your next trip to the supermarket, not blindly wondering the aisles looking for healthy options. Additionally, you’re going to want to strip your cupboards bare of all the foods that can steer your diet off-course, like chocolate, crisps and sugary drinks!
Learn To Enjoy Small Portions
Overeating and large portions are the biggest barriers when it comes to the January detox, but thankfully there are a whole host of online food calculators that will help you to portion your food easier. Foods such as rice and pasta expand when they’re cooked, meaning you might not actually know how much you’re putting in the pan to boil. One of the easiest ways to reduce your portions is to use a small cup to measure your rice. Fill it to the max and see what you’re left with once it’s boiled.
Make the Most of Leftovers
If you do end up overcooking, don’t throw everything in the bin just to get it out of your sight! Leftover food, when combined with fresh vegetables and nutrients, can make excellent meals – don’t be so quick to dispose of that leftover Christmas turkey!
Drink Water
Water is an essential part of the human body, and we need it for a number of important functions including growth and repair. If you’re detoxing, then you’ll want to flush out all the anti-oxidants, and that means drinking 4-5 pints every day. Water also helps the excretion process as well as benefiting the skin too.
Finally – Just Say No
You have to remember that it’s OK to say no to food, especially if you’re being pressured in social occasions. Don’t eat with your eyes, eat with your appetite!
