Top Tips: The Dos and Don'ts of Kissing

It doesn't matter whether we're kissing somebody for the first time, or sharing a moment with somebody we know and love, kissing well is nice for everybody. We've all experienced the let down of a bad kiss; it’s never good when somebody we're besotted with gets a little too sloppy. Here, we take a look at several top tips which will help you avoid being that person.

Close your eyes

There's nothing more likely to ruin the moment than opening your eyes during a kiss. Of course, the other person has to have open eyes to spot it, but that isn't the point. Kissing well is all about being in the moment. If your eyes are checking out what's going on behind the back of your partner, you're unlikely to be giving it your all. In the unlucky event that you're caught with your eyes open, bring your head back and give your partner a smile to let them know that you're in the moment with them.

Don't kiss with cold sores

There are few things more frustrating than a cold sore. Not only will they make you feel unattractive, but they can become uncomfortable over time. If you've got a cold sore but feel like you've done a good job of covering it up, don't let this fool you into thinking you're ready to kiss.

You might have wondered ’how do you catch cold sores?’ - the answer is fairly straightforward. Cold sores are caused by a virus and are highly contagious. While there are a number of triggers, the virus itself can be passed on through contact and that includes kissing. Treat your cold sore before going in for the kiss and spare your partner the stress.

Care for your lips

Kissing isn't all down to technique it's also nice to feel a soft pair of lips. Our lips can become chapped, particularly in the colder months, or when we're exposed to sudden changes in temperature. Not only is this uncomfortable, but it can make for an uncomfortable kiss.

If you're keen on the idea of giving out a kiss or two, go out of your way to treat your chapped lips beforehand, making the experience nicer not only for your partner but for you as well.

Take your time

There's no denying that a bit of passion is nice, but it's easy to get over-excited when you're kissing somebody new. Rather than jumping in there, try being patient and giving one another time to make the most of the kiss, but do remember that variety is the spice of life, so vary your technique a little!
